Blogging and Health Care
I am currently reading an article published in Public Relations Review titled "Critical analysis of blogging in public relations" by Michael Kent. It is interesting to note that there is an exaggerated significance that has been attributed to blogs because at present, only about 1 in 9 Americans report having read a blog. Even more interesting is the fact that 84% of bloggers post infrequently, 56% do not make any effort to check their facts, and 60% do not publish corrections. I think that this has profound consequences for the number of people that read health blogs and take the information on them as fact. I think that there needs to be some sort of self-regulation (whether enforced or not) on the major blogs that people use for health information.
